History

First run in 1895, the Louisville Handicap is run at 1 ½ miles (12 furlongs) on the turf at Churchill Downs. Open to horses aged 3 and older, Keertana (2011) is the only female to ever win the Louisville Handicap. Recent horses to win the race more than once are Chorwon (1997-1999) and Silverfoot (2004-2006), who both won in three times. Other recent winners include Silver Medallion (1990), With Anticipation (2001) and Brass Hat (2009).
