Tiz a Slam

Chiefswood Stable’s Tiz a Slam broke his maiden in his career debut in August 2016 at Woodbine and finished fourth in the Grade 3 Summer Stakes to starts later in his stakes debut. The Tiznow colt continued to compete in stakes through his 3-year-old season and finished second to the filly Holy Helena in the Queen’s Plate in June 2017. Three starts later, the Roger Attfield trainee defeated that foe and seven other opponents in the Grade 3 Ontario Derby at Woodbine in October for his first stakes win.

Tiz a Slam went winless in his five starts - all in stakes - leading up to July 1, 2018, when he won the Grade 3 Dominion Day Stakes at Woodbine by  1 1/4 lengths over Melmich. He then scored a second consecutive graded stakes win in the July 22 Grade 2 Nijinsky Stakes, setting the pace and holding off Mekhtaal by a half-length.

In his attempt for a three-race winning streak in graded stakes, Tiz a Slam next came up a length short to Utmost in the Grade 2 Sky Classic Stakes at Woodbine. He then was unplaced in four consecutive graded stakes starts through the rest of 2018 and for the first five months of 2019. Tiz a Slam got back to the winner’s circle with a pace-controlling win in the Grade 3 Louisville Stakes at Churchill Downs on May 18.

Back at Woodbine for the summer, Tiz a Slam continued his stellar 5-year-old campaign, winning the Grade 3 Singspiel Stakes and the Grade 2 Nijinsky Stakes back-to-back.
