A native of Ireland, Declan Cannon began riding in the U.S. in late 2015 after riding in his home country and also the United Arab Emirates, England, and France. Cannon races primarily in Kentucky and Arkansas and in June 2017 picked up his first graded stakes win aboard Argentine shipper Dona Bruja in the Grade 3 Old Forester Mint Julep Handicap at Churchill Downs.
Cannon enjoyed the best year of his career in 2023, tallying three graded stakes wins through early September including the Grade 2 Elkhorn Stakes at Keeneland aboard Verstappen.
