First run in 1984, the Smile Sprint is now held at Gulfstream going six furlongs for horses three and older. A Breeders’ Cup Win and You’re In for the Sprint, the Smile Sprint/Breeders’ Cup double has been done by Orientate (2002) and Big Drama (2010). The Smile Sprint was called the Miami Beach Handicap until 1999 when it was renamed for 1986 champion sprinter Smile.
