Open to horses age three and older, the Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap is contested at three quarters of a mile (six furlongs) on the dirt track at Saratoga Race Course. The race was named to honor Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt II, who was a very prominent Thoroughbred owner.
