Volatile did not debut until July of his 3-year-old, and the Violence colt won two of three starts in 2019. In 2020 as a 4-year-old, Volatile emerged as an elite sprinter. He won an April 24 allowance race at Oaklawn Park by 7 ½ lengths before romping by eight lengths in the Aristides Stakes June 6 at Churchill Downs.
Volatile made his stakes debut in the Grade 1 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap July 25 at Saratoga, set an uncontested pace, and surged clear to a comfortable win in the stretch.
