Built

Built won his maiden race as a 2-year-old in his second lifetime outing on Oct. 6, 2024, at Keeneland. Built made his next start in the $96,000 Gun Runner Stakes at Fair Grounds on Dec. 21, where he topped a five-horse field by 6 3/4 lengths to win in wire-to-wire fashion. The Gun Runner Stakes was a points race on the Road to the 2025 Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve, and with his win, Built earned 10 qualifying points.

Built returned to make his 3-year-old debut in his next start in the following race on the Fair Grounds path to the Kentucky Derby in the Lecomte Stakes on Jan. 18, 2025. Racing 1 1/16 miles in a field of 13 horses on a sloppy track in the Lecomte, Built battled in the stretch and settled for second by a neck. The second-place finish in the Lecomte awarded Built another 10 points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby.

Built then stayed on the Fair Grounds path to the Kentucky Derby in his next races, first in the Grade 2 $500,000 Risen Star Stakes going 1 1/8 miles on Feb. 15 and secured a third-place finish in the 12-horse field to accumulate enough Kentucky Derby qualifying points to bring his total up to 35. He then finished the Fair Grounds road to the Kentucky Derby in somewhat disappointing fashion when fifth in the Grade 2 $1 million Twinspires.com Louisiana Derby going 1 3/16 miles in a 10-horse field on March 22.

Built is trained by Wayne Catalano. He was bred in Kentucky by the sire Hard Spun out of the mare Sea Garden by Curlin.
