First run as the Churchill Downs Turf Sprint Stakes in 1995, the race has always been run at five furlongs on the turf at Churchill Downs. Open to horses aged three and older, 2015 winner Power Alert ran the race in the fastest time when stopping the clock in :55.17 to give jockey Julien Leparoux his record-setting third win in the race. Trainer Bret Calhoun is the winningest trainer in the race with three victories. Equine winners of the race include Danjur, Testify and Regally Ready.
