Arlington Million XXXVI S.

Open to horses ages 3 years old and older, this race is contested on Arlington Park’s turf course at a distance of 1 1/4 miles (10 furlongs). As its name implies, the 1981 Arlington Million was the first Thoroughbred race to offer a purse of $1 million.

The 1985 Million is one of the most memorable editions of the race. A fire destroyed the grandstand just 25 days earlier but the race went on as scheduled with tents for patrons in what would be called the "Miracle Million." Teleprompter won that race.
