Renamed for jockey Bill Shoemaker, the race is open to 3-year-olds and older and has been won by J.O. Tobin (when it was run on dirt), Clever Song, The Tin Man, Thorn Song and Obviously. The Shoemaker Mile is a Win and You're In event for the Breeders' Cup Mile.
