Count Again

Count Again did not make his career debut until August of his 4-year-old campaign when he ran third in a maiden special weight race at Ellis Park. He earned his first win Oct. 9, 2019, at Keeneland when he stretched out to a mile and won by 3 ¼ lengths for owner-breeder Sam-Son Farm.

The Awesome Again gelding closed from well back to win his 5-year-old bow, surging clear late to score by 1 ¾ lengths in April 2020 at Tampa Bay Downs.

Count Again subsequently ran third and second, respectively, in turf races at Woodbine in June and August, but he enjoyed a breakout performance in his sixth career start. Settled off the pace early in the Grade 3 Singspiel Stakes Sept. 19 at Woodbine, Count Again swept to the front under Luis Contreras and powered clear in the stretch to a dominant victory.

After fading to finish fourth in the Grade 1 Northern Dancer Turf Stakes Presented by Pattison, Count Again regained his elite form with a powerful rally to reel in Flavius in the closing strides of the Grade 2 Seabiscuit Handicap Nov. 28 at Del Mar.

In his first start of 2021, Count Again finished seventh in the Grade 2 San Gabriel Stakes at Santa Anita Park on Jan. 2. After some time off, he bounced back with a third-place finish in the Grade 1 Frank E. Kilroe Mile Stakes on Mar. 6.

Stakes winner Count to Three, by Red Ransom, is the dam (mother) of Count Again as well as multiple Grade 1 winner Ransom the Moon.
