Originally run at Ak-sar-ben, the Cornhusker moved to Prairie Meadows in 1997 and is currently run on dirt at 1 1/8 miles (9 furlongs) for horses three and older. Jockey L.J. Durousseau won four consecutive editions of the race from 1967 to 1970, the most of any jockey and Vale of Tears and Joey Bob are the only two horses to win the race twice. Winners of the race include 1979 champion sprinter Star de Naskra, classic winner Gate Dancer, Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Black Tie Affair, Dubai World Cup winner Roses in May and Breeders’ Cup winner Fort Larned.
