Night Ops, a Warrior’s Reward colt, began his racing career in August 2018 but did not win his first race until his seventh start in March 2019 at Oaklawn Park. That was his first race for new owner Steve Landers Racing and new trainer Brad Cox, and Night Ops improved after that, finishing second by a neck in the Oaklawn Invitational Stakes in his next start and then winning three of his next seven races through early 2020.
Night Ops, a Warrior’s Reward colt, began his racing career in August 2018 but did not win his first race until his seventh start in March 2019 at Oaklawn Park. That was his first race for new owner Steve Landers Racing and new trainer Brad Cox, and Night Ops improved after that, finishing second by a neck in the Oaklawn Invitational Stakes in his next start and then winning three of his next seven races through early 2020.
The now 4-year-old tallied his first stakes win in the Essex Handicap at Oaklawn on March 14 but disappointed when ninth in his first graded stakes start, the May 2 Oaklawn Handicap. However, he then shipped to Iowa on July 5 for the Grade 3 Prairie Meadows Cornhusker Handicap, and picked up his breakthrough graded win by 3 ¾ lengths under Martin Garcia.
After that win in the Cornhusker, Night Ops went to the sidelines for the rest of 2020. In his first two starts of 2021, he finished third in the Fifth Season Stakes and the Essex Handicap, both at Oaklawn Park. As the favorite in the Grade 3 Ben Ali Stakes at Keeneland on Apr. 10, Night Ops finished second after rating off the pace. He finished second in his next three starts, all of which came in stakes company.
