Another bullet in Gary and Mary West's Derby hopefuls stable, Code West won his maiden in late October by a length. Trained by Bob Baffert, the Lemon Drop Kid son earned a second place finish in the Grade 2 Risen Star Stakes. He continued on to finish sixth from a large field in the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby. Making his next racing destination Churchill Downs, he ran hard to win the Grade 3 Matt Winn Stakes.
