Carve won his first two races by a combine 4 1/2 lengths before moving up to stakes company in the Rebel Stakes where he placed sixth.
The First Samurai Son raced well in the competitive field of the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby finishing third, but had a dissapointing seventh place finish in the Grade 3 Matt Winn Stakes. Not a month later, the colt took third place in the Long Branch Stakes.
Carve earned a breakthrough win in the Grade 3 Cornhusker Handicap in June 2014 and followed with a stakes win at Mountaineer Park.
