The Spinster Stakes carries a $500,000 purse and a lot of prestige. The 1 1/8 mile-race for 3-year-old and older fillies and mares has been contested annually in early October at Keeneland Race Course since 1956, and a victory guarantees a spot in the Breeders' Cup Distaff starting gate.

The race has been won by Hall of Famers and champions including Princess Rooney, Bayakoa, Inside Information, Banshee Breeze and Azeri. Top fillies including Clear Mandate, Keeper Hill, Take Charge Lady, In Lingerie and Emollient have also tallied victories in the Spinster.

Jockeys Laffit Pincay, Jr. and Pat Day each have won the race five times, while trainers Ron McAnally and Shug McGaughey each have four wins in the race. Multiple owners have captured the race twice but no owner has a trio of victories.
