History

The Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes was first run in 1920 at Churchill Downs and is one of the final major 2-year-old races of the year. The top four finishers get points toward the next year's Kentucky Derby starting gate. Since its inception, five winners of the race have won the Kentucky Derby the following spring, most recently Super Saver in 2010. Uncaptured was named Canada's Horse of the Year in 2012 after winning the race.

Other famous horses that have won the race include Derby winners Reigh Count, Clyde Van Dusen, Twenty Grand and Cannonade as well as Captain Steve and Uncaptured.
