David Cohen began his professional riding career in 2004 and thrived during the early 2010s on the Mid-Atlantic circuit, winning jockey titles at Parx Racing and Delaware Park and earning national notices with a win in the 2012 Travers Stakes (part of a dead heat) before being sidelined for a lengthy period after a 2014 leg fracture.

Cohen was JockeyTalk360.com’s Comeback Jockey of the Year in 2018 after finishing with 114 victories. He had been away from racing for three years after the leg injury and the deaths of his father and sister. Cohen returned to the irons in late 2017 and rode six races. In 2018, he finished third in the standings at Oaklawn Park and continued his success at the Arkansas track in 2019, finishing as the meet’s wins leader with 75.
Cohen enjoyed success in 2020 and 2021 riding graded stakes winner and Kentucky Derby and Preakness starter Keepmeinmind.
