A standout maiden winner at Saratoga in August of 2014, two starts later El Kabeir finished second in the Grade 2 Nashua Stakes. But his crowning moment as a 2-year-old came at the end of November when he won the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes after leading the entire 1 1/16-mile race on the same track the Kentucky Derby is run on.
A standout maiden winner at Saratoga in August of 2014, two starts later El Kabeir finished second in the Grade 2 Nashua Stakes. But his crowning moment as a 2-year-old came at the end of November when he won the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes after leading the entire 1 1/16-mile race on the same track the Kentucky Derby is run on.
El Kabeir was just as impressive in his 3-year-old debut when he stormed to a dominant victory in the Grade 3 Jerome Stakes at Aqueduct. After a disappointing runner-up finish as the 1-to-2 favorite in the Withers Stakes, El Kabeir bounced back with a runaway win in the Gotham Stakes that cemented his status as a true Kentucky Derby contender. The colt ended his Derby prep season with a third-place finish in the Wood Memorial.
El Kabeir was scratched from the Kentucky Derby and didn't run again until late October, finishing a disappointing fifth in the Grade 3 Bold Ruler Handicap. He rebounded to win the City of Laurel Stakes 15 days later but has since run unplaced.
El Kabeir is by late 2007 Florida Derby winner Scat Daddy, who turned into a useful sire in the United States and a leading sire in Chile. El Kabeir's dam, Great Venue, is an unraced mare by 1995 Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Unbridled's Song. She is a half-sister to multiple graded stakes winner Too Much Bling and stakes winners Barnsy, Ready for Roses, and Littlebitabling.
