Silver Prospector

Silver Prospector made his first three starts on grass with his best result a third-place finish in August 2019 at Saratoga Race Course. Switched to the main track, the Declaration of War colt won a maiden race in October at Keeneland before running third in the Street Sense Stakes two weeks later at Churchill Downs.

Silver Prospector made his graded stakes debut in the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes, a points race on the road to the 2020 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve, and outfinished heavily favored Tiz the Law to prevail. He finished a disappointing fourth in his 3-year-old bow in the Smarty Jones Stakes at Oaklawn Park but rebounded to win the $750,000 Southwest Stakes and earn 10 more Derby points on Feb. 17.

The gray or roan colt made his next start in the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes back at Oaklawn, where he was sent off as the 4.20-1 second betting choice behind favored Nadal. He sat off of the pace in his usual running style but had no kick in the stretch and finished a disappointing sixth of eight.

Silver Prospector began his 4-year-old campaign with a fifth-place finish in the Grade 3 Louisiana Stakes at Fair Grounds on Jan. 16, 2021. He followed that up with a second-place performance in the Grade 3 Razorback Handicap at Oaklawn on Feb. 27. His 2021 season ended following a third-place finish in the Grade 3 Steve Sexton Mile at Lone Star Park on May 31.

Silver Prospector did no better than second in his first four starts of 2022. However, he broke through on May 30, winning the Grade 3 Steve Sexton Mile at Lone Star on May 30. Stewart Elliott had the winning mount, for his first graded stakes win since 2018.

Multiple stakes-placed winner Tap Softly, by Tapit, is the dam (mother) of Silver Prospector. Grade 2 winner Silentlea, by Cherokee Run, is Silver Prospector’s grandam (maternal grandmother).
