The Withers Stakes is a 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-olds that awards points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby. It is held each February at Aqueduct Race Track. The race was first run in 1874 at Jerome Park Race Track and has been run at several tracks since.
Aristides, Colin, Sir Barton, Man o' War, Count Fleet, Native Dancer, Dr. Fager and Ack Ack are among the legendary horses to have won the race. More recent winners include Alpha, Bernardini and Gone West. Jockey Eddie Arcaro and trainer Sunny Jim Fitzimmons each won the race on a record six occasions.
