Trainer Rick Violette won more than 800 career races, including 32 graded stakes, and served as the president of the National Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association.
Violette trained multiple graded stakes winner Read the Footnotes, who finished seventh in the 2004 Kentucky Derby. Violette finished fifth with Samraat in the 2014 Kentucky Derby and unplaced with Upstart in the 2015 edition of the race.
Violette trained Citadeed to a third-place finish in the 1995 Belmont Stakes, giving the trainer a top-three finish in a U.S. classic.
