History

Named after 2008 Kentucky Derby runner-up Eight Belles, the Eight Belles Stakes started as the Oaks Prep in 1956 before being renamed the La Troienne in 1967 and becoming the Eight Belles Stakes in 2009. Named for the 2008 Kentucky Derby runner-up, it is run on the Kentucky Oaks undercard for 3-year-old fillies at seven furlongs on the dirt and has been won by horses such as Doubledogdare, Cicada, La Prevoyante, Ribbon, Heavenly Cause, Caressing, and Contested.
