Fiftyshadesofgold broke her maiden impressively at first asking before heading to Churchill Downs and capturing the Debutante Stakes with just as much ease. She followed that effort with a third place in the Adirondack Stakes at Saratoga in what would conclude her 2-year-old season. As a 3-year-old, Fiftyshadesofgold won a stakes at Sam Houston before running second to top filly Untapable in the Fair Grounds Oaks. Fiftyshadesofgold then won the Eight Belles Stakes on the Kentucky Oaks undercard.

Fiftyshadesofgold is a Texas-bred daughter of Golden Song from the Hadif mare Hadif Cat. She is a half-sister to two stakes winners. The filly is pointed toward a start in the 2014 Kentucky Oaks.
