The Sham Stakes is a race for 3-year-olds on the Road to the Kentucky Derby. The Sham, the first 3-year-old Kentucky Derby prep race on the west coast, is run in early January at Santa Anita Park at the current distance of 1 mile. The race is named for Sham, the Santa Anita Derby winner who is remembered for his rivalry with Triple Crown winner Secretariat.

The race was first run in 2001 and has been won by Travers Stakes winner Colonel John and Breeders' Cup Mile winners Tapizar and Goldencents. Trainer Bob Baffert has won the race three times, while jockeys Alex Solis and Garrett Gomez each have four wins in the race.
