Azul Coast won his career debut Dec. 8, 2019, at Los Alamitos, where he closed from off the pace and shook clear to a four-length win in a one-mile maiden special weight race. He followed with a runner-up finish in the Grade 3 Sham Stakes in January 2020 in his stakes debut.
Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert next shipped the Super Saver colt north to Golden Gate Fields where he was a convincing winner of the El Camino Real Derby to earn 10 qualifying points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby and a guaranteed starting spot in the 2020 Preakness Stakes.
