Run at 1 1/8 miles on dirt for horses 4-years old and up, the New Orleans Handicap is run at the Fair Grounds during the track’s biggest weekend of racing. Since 1976, the race has attracted some of the top horses in the division with a win list including Wild Again, Concern, Include, Mineshaft, Peace Rules, Brass Hat and Palace Malice.

Honor Medal is the only horse since 1976 to win the race twice (in 1987 and 1988). Trainer Todd Pletcher has won the race six times since 2007.
