After failing to win his first four races, Honorable Duty put together a three-race winning streak in 2016. He closed his 2016 season with a win in the Tenacious Stakes at Fair Grounds. Then, the bay Distorted Humor gelding earned his first career graded stakes victory in the Grade 3 Mineshaft Handicap at Fair Grounds in February 2017.
After failing to win his first four races, Honorable Duty put together a three-race winning streak in 2016. He closed his 2016 season with a win in the Tenacious Stakes at Fair Grounds. Then, the bay Distorted Humor gelding earned his first career graded stakes victory in the Grade 3 Mineshaft Handicap at Fair Grounds in February 2017.
With James Graham in the irons, Honorable Duty made it back-to-back graded stakes wins in the Grade 2 New Orleans Handicap on the April 1 Twinspires.com Louisiana Derby undercard, rallying strongly in the final yards to edge pacesetter Breaking Lucky by a neck.
After a runner-up finish in the Grade 2 Alysheba Stakes, Honorable Duty ran second again in the Grade 1 Stephen Foster Handicap to rising star Gun Runner. He then posted a dominant victory in the Grade 3 Lukas Classic Stakes on Sept. 30 at Churchill Downs.
Honorable Duty went off form quickly in his two next starts, finishing a puzzling sixth as the favorite in the Fayette Stakes at Keeneland before being pulled up in the Clark Handicap and not completing the race. He returned in 2018 back in good, competitive condition, romping in an allowance race at Churchill Downs’ spring meet before finishing second to Pavel in the Grade 1 Stephen Foster Handicap.
