Trained by Anne Smith for Windy Hill Farm, Nates Mineshaft won four consecutive races at the Fair Grounds in the winter of 2012. He started his winning streak in a $25,000 claimer and after leaving the selling ranks won the 2012 Mineshaft Handicap and New Orleans Handicap.
Nates Mineshaft won another graded stakes race in 2012 but was unable to duplicate his success against elite competition in 2013 or 2014 despite a pair of top-three finishes in stakes races.
