The Vosburgh Invitational was first run in 1940 and has been based at Belmont for most of its runnings. The race is open to any horse 3-years-old or older and is run at six furlongs on the dirt. It is a "Win and You're In" event for the Breeders' Cup Sprint.

The race has been won by such horses as Groovy, Housebuster, Rubiano, Harlan, Langfuhr, Artax, Trippi, Ghostzapper, Henny Hughes, Kodiak Kowboy, Private Zone and Rock Fall.
