Apparently trainer Kenny McPeek decided to give someone else a chance to win a big 3-year-old race on a Triple Crown weekend. After sweeping the Longines Kentucky Oaks and the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve two weeks ago, McPeek sent Derby winner Mystik Dan to Pimlico for the Preakness Stakes, but did not enter anyone in the George E. Mitchell Black-Eyed Susan Stakes. That left a field of eight 3-year-old fillies with D. Wayne Lukas and Butch Reid the two trainers eligible to sweep both the Black-Eyed Susan and the Preakness.

Racetrack: Pimlico Race Course, Baltimore, Md.

Date: May 17

Purse: $300,000

Distance: 1 1/8 miles

Race: 13

Post Time: 5:44 p.m. ET

Notable winners: Stopchargingmaria (2014), Royal Delta (2011), Silverbulletday (1999), Serena’s Song (1995), Davona Dale (1979), What a Summer (1976), My Juliet (1975), Summer Guest (1972), Office Queen (1970), Wistful (1949), Gallorette (1945), Twilight Tear (1944), Vagrancy (1942), Nellie Morse (1924).

First held: 1919

1. Jeanne Marie (20-1): Was second in an ungraded stakes at Pimlico to prep for this. Has some speed and will benefit from a rail trip. Could be a threat if the pace is slow enough but it looks like there’s plenty of speed in the field.

JOCKEY: Mychel Sanchez; TRAINER: Butch Reid

2. Ringy Dingy (10-1): Makes her 2024 debut here and may need a race to return to top form.

JOCKEY: Katie Davis; TRAINER: Danny Gargan

3. Lemon Muffin (4-1): Was no factor in the Kentucky Oaks but two starts before that, she was an easy winner of the Grade 3 Honeybee Stakes. If she can duplicate that effort for “The Coach” (a.k.a. trainer D. Wayne Lukas) in the Bleck-Eyed Susan, she will be a main threat. Otherwise …

JOCKEY: Flavien Prat; TRAINER: D. Wayne Lukas

4. Call Another Play (8-1): Has steadily climbed the class ladder at Laurel Park, winning three straight starts, topped by the Weber City Miss Stakes over Jeanne Marie. Looks like a dangerous local hopeful.

JOCKEY: Jaime Rodriguez; TRAINER: Michael Trombetta

5. Gun Song (9-2): Disappointed when she tired in the stretch and finished a distant fourth in the Gulfstream Park Oaks Presented by FanDuel TV. Was quite impressive in her two starts before that and a return to that form will make her a major threat.

JOCKEY: John Velazquez; TRAINER: Mark Hennig

6. Whocouldaskformo (6-1): Was no threat in the Grade 3 Gazelle Stakes and Grade 2 Davona Dale Stakes Presented by FanDuel TV and may find this spot a tad easier.

JOCKEY: Luis Saez; TRAINER: Shug McGaughey

7. Corposo (5-2): Was a distant third in the Santa Anita Oaks and looks like a filly who could land in the exotics.

JOCKEY: Tyler Gaffalione; TRAINER: Peter Eurton

8. Recharge (7-2): Figures to add to a quick pace from the outside post. Was no match for subsequent Kentucky Oaks winner Thorpedo Anna in the Fantasy Stakes but might be able to hang around to the end here.

JOCKEY: Joel Rosario; TRAINER: Steve Asmussen

THE PICK: Gun Song
