First run in 1941 as the Equipoise Mile over a mile on dirt at Arlington Park, the race was renamed to the Hanshin Cup in 2001 and moved to the synthetic surface in 2007. Recent horses to win the race are champion Smile, Black Tie Affair, Bright Valour (who won the race twice) and Havelock.
