Matrooh

Matrooh began his career in Europe, where he won one of his first five races. He made his U.S. debut in March 2015 and won three of his first four races in the states, all on allowance/optional claiming races.

Matrooh made his stakes debut in the Grade 3 Philip H. Iselin Stakes at Monmouth Park in August 2015 and finished last of six. He bounced back nicely to win the Grade 3 Bold Ruler Handicap at Belmont Park before closing his 2015 season with a third-place finish in the Grade 1 Cigar Mile Handicap.

Matrooh finished fourth in the Grade 3 Hal's Hope Stakes in January 2016 in his 6-year-old bow and then got a break in class as he was shifted to alloance and claiming races. He was winless in nine straight starts from the Cigar Mile through a February 2018 claiming race at Oaklawn Park. Matrooh returned to the winner's circle with a 1 1/4-length victory in a claiming race on March 3 at Oaklawn Park and followed with another win in an allowance/optional claiming race on a sloppy track at Oaklawn on April 6. He returned to stakes company in the Grade 3 Hanshin Cup Stakes at Arlington Park and turned in a visually impressive victory from off the pace in what was his first try on a synthetic surface.
