Moonlight won his first race in his second career start when he defeated 2-year-old maidens by eight lengths going one mile at Aqueduct on Sept. 28, 2023. The win sent him up against stakes competition and he subsequently finished second in the Grade 3 Street Sense Stakes going 1 1/16 miles on a sloppy track at Churchill Downs on Oct. 29. He finished his 2-year-old season with a fourth-place finish in the Grade 2 Remsen Stakes going 1 1/8 miles at Aqueduct on Dec. 2.
