Norman Stables LLC

Norman Stables is the racing operation of Robert Norman. The Alabama native owns several grocery stores in the Southeast with his brother and became interested in racing after watching a television feature on 2012 Belmont Stakes winner Union Rags. He began purchasing Thoroughbreds soon afterward and had his first graded stakes win with Silent Bird in the 2017 Midnight Lute Stakes.

During the mid 2010s, Norman hired veteran Louisiana-based trainer Lonnie Briley to manage some of his horses, and in winter 2024-25 the pair gained national headlines along with jockey Juan Vargas as the connections of Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve prospect Coal Battle. That colt, purchased for $70,000 by Briley for Norman at the 2023 Texas Thoroughbred Association Yearling Sale, won his first five races on dirt including four stakes in a row to join the Derby trail.
