Mother Goose S.

Contested by 3-year-old fillies at a distance of 1 1/16 miles (8.5 furlongs) on dirt at Belmont Park, the Mother Goose Stakes was named for H.P. Whitney's filly Mother Goose, one of only 13 fillies to have ever won the male-dominated Futurity Stakes at Belmont.  The Mother Goose is an important race for 3-year-old fillies on the racing calendar, and winners since 1976 include Davona Dale, Sugar and Spice, Mom’s Command, Open Mind, Go for Wand, Sky Beauty, Lakeway, Serena’s Song, Smuggler, Octave, Rachel Alexandra, Close Hatches and Untapable.
