Run as the race right before the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs, the Woodford Reserve Turf Classic was first run in 1987 and is open to horses 4-years and up going 1 1/8 miles (9 furlongs) on the turf. The race has attracted some of the best turf runners in the United States during its time with Hall of Famers Lure winning the race in a time of 1:46.34, the fastest time the race has been won in. Einstein and Wise Dan join Lure in the race’s history book with their contribution coming as the only two-time winners of the event, the same amount of wins three trainers have to lead the all-time winningest trainers list. Equine winners of the list include Breeders’ Cup winners Manila, Opening Verse, English Channel and Little Mike and champions Paradise Creek and Sky Conqueror.
