Program Trading suffered his first loss when second in the Grade 3 Virginia Derby at Colonial Downs on Sept. 9, but then became a second-time Grade 1 winner in his next start when victorious in the Grade 1, $300,000 Hollywood Derby on Dec. 2 going 1 1/8 miles on the turf at Del Mar. Sent off as the odds-on favorite in a seven-horse field in the Hollywood Derby, Program Trading rallied from off the pace in the stretch to prevail by a neck over runner-up Webslinger.
Returning from a five-month layoff in the $1 million Old Forester Bourbon Turf Classic Stakes on the Kentucky Derby undercard May 4, 2024, at Churchill Downs, Program Trading showed no signs of rust.
