Brant made headlines as one of the most exciting 2-year-olds to debut during Del Mar’s 2025 summer meet soon after it began. On July 26, the Gun Runner colt dominated a 5 ½-furlong maiden race by 5 ¼ lengths and earned high speed figures, leading to high expectations and low odds in his next start, which happened on Del Mar’s closing Sunday, Sept. 7, in the Del Mar Futurity.

Sent off at 1-10 odds, Brant took the early lead, maintained the advantage through the turn, and was kept to task late by jockey Flavien Prat while never being seriously threatened, taking the seven-furlong Del Mar Futurity by a length over stablemate and Best Pal Stakes winner Desert Gate.

Brant is owned by Amr Zedan and trained by Bob Baffert. Zedan purchased the colt for $3 million at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. March select juvenile auction. The gray or roan colt is out of the winning Liam’s Map mare Tynan, who is a half-sister to Grade 2 winner and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile runner-up Pappacap and Grade 3 winner Boppy O.
