Labor Day will provide a lucrative payday to some lucky connections Monday as Kentucky Downs will present the $2 million Mint Millions Invitational Stakes. The mile turf feature attracted a well-matched field of 10 including two entrants from overseas. The race is part of a stellar 14-race card loaded with big fields and wagering value.

1. Quatrocento: Comes off a weak, 12^th-place finish in the Green River Island Stakes presented by Sterling Industrial. Hard to see him moving forward enough to be a major factor here.

2. Brilliant Berti: He took a nice step forward to win the Green River Island Stakes last time. He fell too back and finished fourth in last year’s edition of this race but seems capable of improving.

3. Facteur Cheval: Classy 7-year-old gelding ships in after a summer campaign in Italy. Had a second and third in Group 3 stakes there and was Group 1-placed in a $3 million stakes in Saudi Arabia earlier in the year. One of the top contenders.

4. Haatem: Has enjoyed occasional success in group stakes races overseas. Was fifth at Goodwood last time and well-beaten at Royal Ascot before that. Others are more appealing.

5. Mi Bago: Returns quickly after tiring in the final furlong and finishing fifth in a New York-bred stakes last week. Flopped in his lone start here. Should be in front early but faces a tough task.

6. Giocoso: Had some trouble at the start and then rallied from 12th to finish third in the Green River Island. Speed figures are a notch below the top threats.

7. Chasing the Crown: Won a $500,000 Kentucky Downs race last Saturday with a solid rally from sixth. Has won two of four starts on this turf course and will be right there at the finish if he can duplicate his last effort.

8. Gran Oriente: Was a strong second to Burnham Square in the Grade 1 Arlington Million Stakes at 1 ¼ miles. Has enjoyed enough success at 1 1/16 miles to be a factor in this field.

9. Formidable Man: One of the top milers on the West Coast. The big question mark is how he will handle this course after running on firm grass courses in California. If he can make a smooth transition, he’ll be right there at the finish.

10. Lagynos: Returns fast after finishing fifth behind Chasing the Crown last week as a 4-5 favorite on the heels of a fifth-place finish before that in Saratoga’s Grade 1 Fourstardave Stakes. Finished second in this race last year, also on short rest. He has the back class and reunites with regular rider Jose Ortiz.
