Ag Bullet, a 5-year-old mare by Twirling Candy, led from start to finish to win the $2 million Never Say Die Ladies Turf Sprint Stakes Aug. 30 at Kentucky Downs. The victory vaulted her from out of the top 100 up to eighth in the overall standings, and second behind Thorpedo Anna in the older female division, with $1,433,400 in 2025 earnings.

After a disappointing seventh-place finish in the Unbridled Sidney Stakes Presented by Cygames at Churchill Downs in May, Ag Bullet has rebounded in style with back-to-back graded stakes wins, beating males in the Grade 1 Jaipur Stakes at Saratoga on June 8 before her win in the Ladies Turf Sprint.

Out on the West Coast, the Grade 1 Pacific Classic Stakes Aug. 30 drew some heavy hitters, including 2023 champion 2-year-old male Fierceness and 2025 Preakness Stakes winner Journalism. The duo finished first and second, well in front of the rest of the field, with Fierceness kicking clear to win by 3 ¼ lengths under John Velazquez for his fourth career Grade 1 victory.

The Todd Pletcher-trained Fierceness started his 4-year-old campaign at Churchill in May, setting a track record in his 1 ½-length victory the Grade 2 Alysheba Stakes Presented by Sentient Jet. Following a second-place finish in the Hill ‘n’ Dale Metropolitan Handicap and a fifth in the Grade 1 Whitney Stakes earlier this summer, Fierceness found the winner’s circle once again on Saturday, moving him up 18 spots into 12th in the overall standings and fourth in the older male division with $1,298,970 in 2025 purse earnings. The City of Light colt finished second in last year’s edition of the Longines Breeders' Cup Classic at Del Mar and has punched his return ticket this year with his Pacific Classic win.

Closing weekend at Saratoga was headlined by three Grade 1 races on the East Coast: the Spinaway Stakes on Aug. 30, the Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes on Aug. 31, and the Spendthrift Farm Hopeful Stakes on Sept. 1 with Pletcher sweeping all three races. Tommy Jo, a Spendthrift Farm homebred by Into Mischief, dominated the Spinaway by 6 ½ lengths, remaining undefeated from two starts. With her win on Saturday, she moved into fifth in the 2-year-old filly division with $220,000 in purse earnings and secured her spot in the NetJets Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Oct. 31.

The Pletcher-trained Antiquarian won the Jockey Club Gold Cup by 1 ½ lengths on Sunday, and on closing day at the Spa it was once again the connections of Pletcher, Spendthrift, and Into Mischief who stole the show. Ted Noffey, a gray or roan colt by Into Mischief, romped by 8 ½ lengths under Velazquez in the Hopeful, earning a 104 Equibase Speed Figure in his second career start following a debut win in early August at Saratoga. Ted Noffey moved into fifth in the 2-year-old male division, matching stablemate Tommy Jo with $220,000 in earnings.

There were no major shifts in the jockey standings last week, as Flavien Prat held the top spot for the 11th consecutive week, surpassing $24 million in earnings. On the training side, Chad Brown edged up to third with $16,761,089, while Pletcher climbed into fifth place with $13,158,743 in 2025 earnings after a remarkable week.
