Tommy Jo

Tommy Jo won her maiden race at first asking as a 2-year-old on July 26, 2025, going six furlongs at Saratoga for a 3 3/4-length score. The maiden win was impressive enough for her to face graded stakes company in her next start, which came in the premier juvenile fillies race of the Saratoga summer season in the Grade 1 $300,000 Spinaway Stakes going seven furlongs on Aug. 30.

In the Spinaway, Tommy Jo was sent off as the 0.79-1 favorite in a seven-horse field with jockey Kendrick Carmouche aboard. She stalked dueling leaders up close through the first part of the race and ranged up to challenge at the top of the stretch before quickly accelerating to a big lead enroute to a 6 1/2-length victory Percy’s Bar. The Spinaway was a Breeders' Cup Challenge Series "Win and You're In" race which secured Tommy Jo an expense-paid berth into the NetJets Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Oct. 31 at Del Mar.

After that impressive win, Tommy Jo was sent to Keeneland for her first race going two turns. She again was heavily favored at odds of 0.44-1 in the $650,000, Grade 1 Darley Alcibiades Stakes on Oct. 3, held at 1 1/16 miles. In the race, Tommy Jo provided modest pressure to pacesetter and Spinaway runner-up Percy’s Bar before jockey John Velazquez urged her to challenge her rival entering the stretch. Both fillies matched strides briefly before Percy’s Bar drifted out and bumped Tommy Jo, causing her to break stride and lose momentum. Tommy Jo crossed the finish line second but was elevated to first after Percy’s Bar was disqualified. She extended her career unbeaten streak to three and once again earned a “Win and You’re In” berth in the NetJets BC Juvenile Fillies.

Tommy Jo is trained by Todd Pletcher. She was bred in Kentucky by the sire Into Mischief out of the dam Mother Mother by Pioneerof the Nile.
