First run as the Ancient Title in 1985 over six furlongs on dirt, the race was moved to Santa Anita in 2011 and name was changed to the Santa Anita Sprint Championship in 2012. Still run at six furlongs, the race is a "Win and You're In" for the Breeders' Cup Sprint. It has been won by horses such as Groovy, Elmhurst, Kona Gold, Idiot Proof, Smiling Tiger, Amazombie and Points Offthebench.
