Salamis began his career as a 2-year-old late in 2024 and scored his maiden win as a 3-year-old on Aug. 8, 2025, at Saratoga. After that, he quickly became a stakes winner for the first time when he took the $150,000 Gio Ponti Stakes going one mile on the turf at Belmont at the Big A on Sept. 28.
Salamis began his career as a 2-year-old late in 2024 and scored his maiden win as a 3-year-old on Aug. 8, 2025, at Saratoga. After that, he quickly became a stakes winner for the first time when he took the $150,000 Gio Ponti Stakes going one mile on the turf at Belmont at the Big A on Sept. 28.
The dark bay or brown colt then shipped to California to close out his 2025 campaign and was victorious in the Grade 1 $300,000 Hollywood Derby going 1 1/8 miles on the turf at Del Mar on Nov. 29. Sent off as the 3.10-1 second choice on the tote board in a field of eight 3-year-olds, Salamis rallied from off the pace to get up and win by a neck under jockey Umberto Rispoli.
Salamis is trained by Chad Brown. He was bred in Kentucky by the sire Speightstown out of the mare Antonoe, by First Defence. Salamis’ half-sister, Segesta, won the Matriarch Stakes at Del Mar one day after he scored in the Hollywood Derby.
