Welcome to the 2020 Stay Lucky season with presenting sponsor Breeders' Cup! We have several exciting new prizes plus a smoother, faster app for the new season!

If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve downloaded the app and are ready to start picking winners. If you have not yet downloaded Stay Lucky, what are you waiting for?

Stay Lucky offers participants the opportunity to win great prizes by stringing together winners in Thoroughbred races. Unbroken streaks of five, seven, nine, 14, 17 and 20 reward the players with a prize or choice of prizes. Terms and conditions apply.

The object is simple: pick winners from North American graded stakes races that draw at least seven entrants. Races will be scored in real time but streaks will be updated only once daily to make sure they are scored in the correct order.

Pick as many races each weekend as you like, but be sure to play at least one race every weekend or your streak will be reset.

This weekend’s Stay Lucky slate is headlined by four turf graded stakes at Kentucky Downs in Franklin, Ky.

Thursday, Sept. 10

Longacres Mile Handicap (11:30 p.m. ET): Anothertwistafate’s (#4) three best races came on the synthetic main track at Golden Gate Fields. The Scat Daddy colt has not been nearly as consistent on dirt – he’s winless in four starts – and he has not raced in more than 15 months since an unplaced finish in the 2019 Preakness Stakes. All that to say, I’m inclined to play against the 8-5 favorite in this spot and pass on the race for Stay Lucky.

Saturday, Sept. 12

Kentucky Downs Ladies Turf Stakes (4:27 p.m. ET): Kentucky Downs features a unique turf course and I typically prefer runners with a quality race on the surface, which is how I landed on Mitchell Road (#1) despite a terrible effort in her most recent start. The 5-year-old English Channel mare ran second in this race a year ago despite trouble and, as long as the rain stays away and she gets firm ground, she should bounce back nicely here.

Kentucky Downs Ladies Sprint Stakes (4:59 p.m. ET): I’m a huge fan of Kimari (#11) and I don’t think she should have any trouble facing older horses. Ordinarily, I would unload on her here, but when trainer Mark Casse brings Got Stormy (#8) back on short rest, I take notice. Last year, she ran the race of her life coming back on a week of rest to win the Grade 1 Fourstardave Handicap, and while she has a bit more time after an encouraging second in this year’s Fourstardave, I believe we’ll see another monster effort. Last year’s Breeders’ Cup Mile runner-up is a Stay Lucky play for me in a tough week.

Canadian Stakes (4:51 p.m. ET): I’m a big fan of Cambier Parc (#10) and she towers over this field, but she has not raced in 11 months and it would be tough to feel especially confident coming off a layoff of that length. It’s tough to go against her but it’s also a risk to lay a significant streak on the line on a racehorse who has not started since last October.

Calumet Farm Kentucky Turf Cup Stakes (6:04 p.m. ET): Zulu Alpha (#10) came up with a huge effort in this race a year ago and he’s been even more consistent entering the Kentucky Turf Cup this year with three wins and a second in four races in 2020. My top play this week.

Runhappy Turf Sprint Stakes (6:36 p.m. ET): This might be the best race of the weekend with any one of a half-dozen or more with a legitimate win chance, but it’s also probably the worst for Stay Lucky purposes. I landed on Stubbins (#2) at what I hope will be a fair price after he ran a big race here at Kentucky Downs last year during his 3-year-old season.
