Dan’s Double of the week, featuring handicapping analysis from America's Best Racing's New York correspondent Dan Tordjman, is brought to you by Horseplayers.com, the official online qualifying site of the Breeders' Cup Betting Challenge (BCBC) and National Horseplayers Championship (NHC). Horseplayers.com offers low-cost feeders every day and BCBC and NHC qualifiers every weekend, and it’s the only site where you can qualify for the $1 million BCBC. It’s free to sign up – click here to get information about registering and how to enter contests.

When it comes to making money when handicapping races and betting on horse racing, it’s all about picking winners. Tordjman – DanonymousMan to those who follow him on Twitter – is one of the brightest young minds in the game.

Each Week, Tordjman will provide readers with his two best bets of the weekend and strategies for how to bet them. Tordjman will keep track of his return on investment (ROI) throughout the year and, as a bonus, he will also provide picks for a selection of the key races on the Triple Crown trail and the road to the Breeders’ Cup. Dan was able to manage a positive ROI for his plays in 2016. Come back every week and be sure to follow Tordjman on Twitter.

Laurel Park, Race 3, 1:30 p.m. ET

#2 Debs the Boss: This 2-year-old filly showed some early speed on debut last month before tiring. She wheels back for trainer Dale Capuano, who is not only having a great meet, he also does extremely well with horses making their second career start (near 20 percent win rate and a positive return on investment). Furthermore, this filly is out of a dam who has produced four horses who all won early — three of whom won at least once as a 2-year-old. While it’s hard to predict running style with horses as lightly raced as these, the case can be made that Debs the Boss may find herself alone on the lead. If she is, she’ll be especially tough to catch.

Gulfstream Park, Race 10, $100,000 Tropical Turf Stakes, 4:37 p.m. ET

#4 All Included: This is a very deep and classy stakes field but to me All Included looks like a standout for a couple of reasons. First off, he returns to Gulfstream Park, the site of some of his best performances including a runner-up finish in the Grade 1 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap earlier this year. He also regains the riding services of top jockey Javier Castellano, who’d been his rider prior to his last start in May. As far as that long layoff goes, trainer Todd Pletcher is a master at bringing horses back off an extended break. In fact, over the past five years, he’s had 12 starters return from a 180+ day layoff in stakes races at Gulfstream Park — Pletcher has won five of those 12 races and has finished in the money with seven of his starters.
