Stars of Yesterday: Looking Back at Best Arkansas Derby Winners
The foreign flavor in the Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve will come into focus Saturday with the running of the United Arab Emirates Derby Sponsored by Jumeirah at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai. The race will award 100-60-30-15-10 Kentucky Derby qualifying points on the Euro/Mideast Road to the Kentucky Derby, potentially giving the top two finishers spots in the field of 20 if they want them. An oversees runner has yet to capture the run for the roses, 2024 UAE Derby winner Forever Young finished third by two noses in the 2024 Kentucky Derby.

1. Pyromancer (3-1 morning-line odds, Post 9): Godolphin runner has captured all three of his career starts in Japan, including the Zen-Nippon Nisai Yushun at a mile. Seems very well-meant here.
JOCKEY: James Doyle; TRAINER: Keiji Yoshimura
2. Wonder Dean (12-1, Post 5): Fourth in the Saudi Derby and second in two Japanese races, including the Zen-Nippon Nisai Yushun behind Pyromancer. Should be in the mix.
JOCKEY: Cristian Demuro; TRAINER: Daisuke Takayanagi
3. Six Speed (3-1, Post 2): Won his last three starts capped by a five-length win in the United Arab Emirates Two Thousand Guineas presented by Longines at Meydan. Was third behind Union Security in his first start. Looms a top threat.
JOCKEY: Mickael Barzalona; TRAINER: Bhupat Seemar
4. Go Man (50-1, Post 12): Has won only two of eight starts and faces a tough task from post 12.
JOCKEY: Anthony Crastus; TRAINER: Richard Chotard
5. Salloom (4-1, Post 6): Won his lone start impressively but is behind the others in terms of experience.
JOCKEY: Tadhg O’Shea; TRAINER: Bhupat Seemar
6. Brotherly Love (20-1, Post 11): Has just two wins in six starts and was eighth behind Six Speed in the UAE Two Thousand Guineas. Pass.
JOCKEY: Saffie Osborne; TRAINER: Jamie Osborne
7. Devon Island (8-1, Post 7): Was second to Six Speed in the UAE Two Thousand Guineas. Won his two previous starts, both at Meydan, and cannot be ignored given the Godolphin-Charlie Appleby connections.
JOCKEY: William Buick; TRAINER: Charlie Appleby
8. Rammaas (40-1, Post 3): Started his career at Gulfstream Park with one win in four tries. Tackled Six Speed in the UAE Two Thousand Guineas and finished a distant 13th. That says it all.
JOCKEY: Adrie de Vries; TRAINER: Bhupat Seemar
9. Union Security (50-1, Post 4): Beat Six Speed in his debut but then finished third twice and sixth once in their next three meetings. Could be a factor only based on his best try.
JOCKEY: Connor Beasley; TRAINER: Ahmad bin Harmash
10. Duke of Immatin (40-1, Post 10): Won his debut but was 10th, beaten by 16 lengths, in the UAE Two Thousand Guineas. Needs to take a big step forward.
JOCKEY: Silvestre De Sousa; TRAINER: Musabbeh Al Mheiri
11. Lino Padrino (30-1, Post 1): Has faced Six Speed twice and lost by a combined 19 lengths. Hard to like here.
JOCKEY: Rochard Mullen; TRAINER: Bhupat Seemar
12. Labwah (15-1, Post 8): Talented filly has won three of four starts, topped by the United Arab Emirates Oaks Sponsored By Deepal. Deserves a close look in this field.
