
ABR Sunday Selections: Full-Card Picks for Feb. 9 at Gulfstream Park
After earning the Jockey Guild’s top jockey of the week to start off the new year, Kendrick Carmouche tacked on five more wins last week and now leads the 2025 Equibase standings for North American jockeys by wins and earnings with 13 wins and $589,050 in earnings (all statistics through Jan. 14). On Saturday at Aqueduct, Carmouche had two wins from six mounts including a win aboard Tizzy in the Sky in the Ladies Stakes for trainer Todd Pletcher. Manny Franco, second in the standings by earnings, trails Carmouche by $58,830 despite winning at 33% last week with six wins and $290,430 in earnings.
Dylan Davis, a proficient rider on the NYRA circuit coming off his career best year, has moved his tack down south to Gulfstream Park for the Championship Meet this winter. Last week at Gulfstream Park, Davis had five wins from 20 mounts and two wins from six mounts at Aqueduct with $363,372 in earnings, the most of any jockey across North America last week. With $478,887 in earnings this year, Davis is currently fifth in the standings by earnings and tied for fourth by wins with nine.
Following a win in the Go For Wand Stakes in early December, Tizzy in the Sky put on another impressive performance at Aqueduct on Saturday, winning the Ladies Stakes by three lengths for KimDon Racing, running a 102 Equibase Speed Figure. Stablemate Julia Shining, the daughter of multiple graded stakes winner Dreaming of Julia and full sister to Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner Malathaat, finished second. With $82,500 in earnings, Tizzy in the Sky has moved into the top 10 and is eighth in the standings. Since their first start as an ownership group in 2019, KimDon Racing has a total of three stakes wins including one graded stakes win, all with Tizzy in the Sky.
Michael Maker remains first in the Equibase trainer standings early into 2025; however, Mark Casse is hot on his heels, trailing by just $12,460 in earnings. Casse had three wins, two seconds and two thirds last week with $141,200 in earnings, bringing his 2025 total to eight wins and $493,525 in earnings. Other notable trainer performances include Anthony Farrior, who had 10 wins from 19 starts last week. Farrior leads the 2025 standings by wins, with 13.
