Racing
In front of a crowd of 41,876 Saturday at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, N.J., Journalism powered home to take the NYRA Bets Haskell Stakes for trainer Michael McCarthy with Umberto Rispoli in the irons. Journalism is the first horse in North America with three Grade 1 victories this year, as the Haskell followed scores in the Santa Anita Derby and Preakness Stakes. The 3-year-old Curlin colt remains second in the overall 2025 earnings leaderboard for Thoroughbreds racing in North America, bankrolling $3,640,000 so far.
The United Nations Stakes was also part of a stacked card Saturday at Monmouth, and Redistricting edged clear under a perfectly timed ride by Flavien Prat to give trainer Chad Brown his fourth win on the card. Following his second straight stakes win, Redistricting cracked the top 100, moving into 47th on the overall leaderboard with $462,000 in earnings.
Redistricting’s win was part of a breakout week for Brown, whose horses posted six wins from 32 starts and $1,269,310 in earnings. Three of Brown’s four wins on Saturday at Monmouth were in graded stakes races, as he also won the WinStar Matchmaker Stakes with Segesta and the Molly Pitcher Stakes with Randomized. Following a lucrative week across the country, Chad Brown moved into third in the trainer standings with $12,237,481 in earnings.
All four jockeys on top of the North American earnings standings hit major milestones this week. Flavien Prat continued his dominant run, surpassing $19 million in earnings and holding the top spot for the fifth consecutive week. Irad Ortiz Jr. remained in second, also for the fifth straight week, after crossing the $17 million mark. His brother Jose Ortiz stayed in third while eclipsing $16 million in earnings. Luis Saez rounded out the top four, reaching $15 million last week.
