Segesta

Segesta began her career early in her 3-year-old year in 2024 and won her maiden race in her third career start in a one-mile turf race at Keeneland on April 21.

The Ghostzapper filly's second win came in the Grade 2 $200,000 Wonder Again Stakes going 1 1/8 miles on the turf at Belmont at the Big A on May 27, 2024. Segesta pressed the pace throughout and prevailed by a half a length as the 4-1 second choice on the tote board in a field of six.

Segesta became a graded stakes winner again at the age of 4 when she scored at Monmouth Park in the Grade 3 $300,000 WinStar Matchmaker Stakes going 1 1/8 mile on the turf. She prevailed by a neck atop a seven-horse field in a close three-horse win photo.

Following the Matchmaker, Segesta maintained good form through the fall of 2025, finishing second by a half-length in the Resolute Racing Ladies Turf Stakes at Kentucky Downs and then nearly capturing her first Grade 1 stakes Oct. 4 at Keeneland. She rallied strongly through the stretch but came up short by a neck to Simply in Front in the First Lady Stakes held at one mile.

One start later, Segesta broke through at the Grade 1 level, easily winning the Matriarch Stakes Nov. 30 at Del Mar. She took command in early stretch and drew clear to a 2 ¼-length victory under Flavien Prat.

Trained by Chad Brown, Segesta is out of the Grade 1-winning First Defence mare Antonoe and is a half-sister to Salamis, who won the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby at Del Mar one day prior to her victory in the Matriarch.
